With funding from a Mobility Fellowship awarded by the University of Vienna, Dr. Fiammetta Bonfigli travelled to Canada in April 2026 to develop joint research with the Transitional Justice Evaluation Tools (TJET) project at the University of Toronto Mississauga. The research project investigates the relationship between transitional justice and constitution-making in established democracies with the help of evaluative tools to measure the impact of transitional justice processes through qualitative and quantitative approaches.

Dr. Bonfigli’s research stay began with training on the use of the data collection technologies and evaluation frameworks developed by the TJET project team. She then conducted archival research in Toronto and Montreal to investigate how Canada’s constitutional framework engages with transitional justice, particularly as regards indigenous rights and reparations. To cap off her stay, she co-organized a joint seminar with Prof. Geoffrey Dancy, the director of the TJET project, presenting preliminary findings. The collaboration will be reflected in a co-authored article and continued by a workshop at the Oñati International Institute for the Sociology of Law in 2027.
