From June till August 2025, the Department of Legal and Constitutional History is hosting Professor Masanori Okada, Director of the Institute of Comparative Law at Waseda University Tokyo.
Professor Okada’s research centres on the connections between Japan and Austria in the 19th and early 20th centuries, taking an unusual perspective – so far, there have only been isolated studies of these contacts by legal historians. He shed light on these links in a lecture on “The General Civil Code, Social Monarchy and Pure Theory of Law: Austrian Law in Japanese Law” presented in the department’s research seminar.
