Research Stay at Paris' EHESS

In March/April, our colleague Sebastian Frik discussed anti-colonial human rights conceptions at the EHESS in Paris.

Our colleague, Sebastian Frik, completed a research stay at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris during March and April 2025. This visit was made possible by a KWA scholarship. The primary goal was to discuss his dissertation, which examines conceptions of human rights among "Black" colonized people in interwar Paris, within the French academic community.

In addition to attending numerous seminars at the EHESS, Sebastian Frik took the opportunity to visit the French National Archives to analyze further source material for his research.

The stay in Paris fostered international networking and allowed for intensive academic exchange within Francophone discussions on anti-colonial legal mobilizations. The interdisciplinary approach of the EHESS proved particularly valuable: Sebastian Frik was able to discuss his theses not only with a legal audience but also with sociologists, historians, and art historians.
